why do people say you have to be able to sing to become a famous singer?

Question by quiet o: why do people say you have to be able to sing to become a famous singer?
if this were true half of the singers wouldnt be famous am i wrong lets take a look at some singers out that cant sing at all

t pain,chris brown,omarion, and alot more

you might say this is biase but if you had a good ear for music youll know that what im saying is true. so if all this people could become famous without really knowing how to sing why do producers say you have to be able to sing? when its really about entertainment, because if it wasent would chris brown be one of the most successful singers out there. the answer to this question is no. so in reality anybody could become a singer because there things out there to make your voice sound good. am i wrong?
