Question by Jesus: Help with picking high school courses?
I am considering staying for a 5th year of high school, and I am wondering which courses would be the best to take, as this would be my definite last year. I believe I will be pursuing a career in zoology, or a similar field. If it helps, my university of choice is Queen’s University (Ontario). Here is a list of all of the grade 12 courses my school offers (a lot of them do not relate to zoology at all, but I thought I’d give anybody who answers ALL of the info):
Drama
Music (Instrumental and Vocal)
Art
Accounting
International Business
Business Management
Information Tech. and Communications Tech.
World Issues
Economics
Law
History
Computer Science
Computer Programming
English
Writer’s Craft
Environmental Studies
Earth and Space Science
French (I really don’t want to take this, so PLEASE tell me I won’t need it)
Exercise Science
Gym
Football
Strength and Conditioning
Data Management
Advanced Functions
Calculus
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Family Studies
Communications Tech.
Woodworking
Manufacturing Tech

I understand that nobody actually wants to read that list, so any help is greatly appreciated. Finally, I have already taken English, Chemistry, Advanced Functions, Calculus, Biology and International Business once, but I would be willing to take them again if they are vital to the knowledge of zoology (I’m assuming that Biology is). If one of those was not important to the knowledge of zoology at all (maybe International Business), I would definitely not take it again. This is my last year to cram in all of the most important stuff that I can, so I can’t be wasting time with anything other than the best classes for my criteria (zoology, Queen’s U)

This is mostly for clarification, are you taking “A” Levels or planning to take them. Most individuals only stay an extra year for one of two reasons, they have not finished their “A” Levels or they are in an IB school.

This being said, check your desired major at Queen’s Univ. and choose those courses which will best serve you in preparing for your major(s). If you are planning to go into business, for example, then calculus, data processing, a foreign language, etc. will best serve your goals.

Good Luck! Hope this helps ..
