I thought I had enough high school credits…?

Question by Crystaillee: I thought I had enough high school credits…?
Hello. I graduated from high school in 2000. I graduated early (I had just turned sixteen – I’m now 25, or will be in Dec.), and never took my SAT’s – since I was technically able to graduate after my sophomore year. I attended Manhattan School of Music in 2004 and got my associates degree in Music Business Management (which btw I never used) and now I’ve been trying to go back to college for Information and Network Security / Network Forensics but have been told by MIT that I don’t have enough credits from high school, despite graduating early. I was also told that I might not be able to take my SAT’s – since it’s been eight years since I left high school and also because I already have my associates degree. I contacted UAT in Tempe, Arizona and while I have a decent chance of being accepted there, it is in Arizona and I live in Massachusetts. I’d rather not uproot my entire family just so I could attend college. That and my husband is already attending college in Massachusetts, and it doesn’t seem fair to pull everyone apart just so I can do what I want.

Anyway, is there a way to get take my SAT’s – even though I already got my associates degree – or is there a way that I can get around the “red tape” and get into MIT. I have the grades from high school, I just don’t have the SAT scores.

Suggestions? Both for the family decision of moving – if we need to – and also for the college. Please also keep in mind that it took my husband almost two years to get everything together to attend the college he’s in now.

Anyone can take the SATs, you don’t need to be in high school. Just sign up for them on College Board. Also, there are more than 100 colleges in MA – your choices aren’t just between MIT (one of the top school in the nation) and UAT (never heard of it). Even if you did have enough credits to apply to MIT, you wouldn’t have a great chance of getting in – no one does. Try Northeastern, BC, BU, UMass Boston, or one of the other 100 colleges in the area.
