Is the iPhone worth getting?

Question by Joan: Is the iPhone worth getting?
Okay, I have had two phones in the past year. The first was a smartphone and I used it so much that the monthly bill was 400-800 dollars.
The second was a terrible oldphone that I gave too little dignity to. I lost it after two months.

So right now, I’m thirteen and phoneless. My mom’s looking into the iPhone, but she’s got a couple questions:

1. Do I get data charges for using web, or is it like the iPod?
2. If the contract expires, can I still listen to music, watch videos, and surf web using Wi-Fi, not 3G?
3. So basically, is it an iPod +subscripton? And if the subscription ends, do I just get an iPod?
4. Which license does it use? So like Virgin Mobile phones use Sprint license, and Google phones use T-Mobile license, which license?
5. Do I get data charges for listening to music
6. How much are the phones themselves?
7. Ever recieved an overcharge?

1. There are two ways to access the internet, 3G and wifi. Wifi is completely free, but requires a wireless router. (Just like an iPod.) Buying an iPhone requires you to buy an unlimited data plan as well, so you will never get overcharged for 3G. 3G is accessible anywhere you have service, not just in wifi spots.
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. AT&T is the service provider of the iPhone.
5. No, never.
6. $ 99 for a 8gb 3G, $ 199 for 16gb 3GS, and $ 299 for 32gb 3GS. You might get it cheaper with a service commitment.
7. Nope, never.
