NFL fans, who is to blame for the failure of the collective bargaining agreement?

Question by Oma: NFL fans, who is to blame for the failure of the collective bargaining agreement?
Are the players being too greedy or the owners? Are Goddell’s demands for improvements too costly for teams?

I think that players salary should go along with league profits. If the league sees a 10% profit increase over the course of the year, player salary should see the same. However I do agree that player contracts have gotten out of hand; particularly rookie contracts. Some of these guys are coming out as the highest paid players in the history of their positions before they ever take a snap in the NFL. Every year there’s a record deal in the works.

At the same time, nobody is showing up on Sundays to see Dan Snyder or Robert Kraft…or even Jerry Jones. Nobody would buy a Dallas Clark or Antonio Gates jersey if they sucked. Look at Jacksonville Jaguars attendance, for example. They haven’t been putting a sercivable product on the field, and their attendance shows it.

Also, new stadiums like Jerry land and Lucas Oil stadium are making other older stadiums obsolete, and can’t compete for super bowls. On his visit to South Florida for the super bowl, Goddell pointed out things that needed to be upgraded to keep up with modern stadiums, and said that “it would be very difficult” for Miami to compete for a future super bowl” as is. They require $ 200 million in upgrades to a stadium that just got renovated.

What do you think? Is it one in particular or a combination of all of these things or something I missed?

I think the blame can be spread equally among all parties involved. Every one of these clowns is forgetting the importance of the fans in this equation. If we don’t attend games, don’t watch games on cable, or free T.V. their revenue is non existent. Advertisers won’t advertise on something that has no following. Which means no broadcasts whatsoever. How quick do you think they would come to an agreement if the fans chose an all out boycott?
